(STRM 05) Factrix - Artifact, 2CD - set in special gatefold with 24 page booklet The origins of industrial music are often associated with England and central Europe, but an equally important incubation took place in USA-after all, it was the American cultural terrorist Monte Cazazza who happened to name the genre when he made a cynical remark about the need for creating "industrial music for industrial people." Fittingly, the eventual birth took place at the last frontier of America's dubious manifest destiny, the West Coast-California Babylon. Right in the thick of it was FACTRIX, alongside fellow performers and artists such as Z'ev, Mark Pauline, and Non. The first wave of nihilistic punk had already begun to unravel in its self-destructive fury, and the time was ripe for new musical initiatives to make a complete break with the previous rock and pop entertainment clichés. FACTRIX consisted of Bond Bergland, Cole Palme, and Joseph T. Jacobs (sometimes aided and abetted by Monte Cazazza). Together they raised an ungodly caterwaul using unconventional instruments and recording techniques. Combining modified electronic devices, a drum machine, and an innovative deployment of guitars and feedback, the band defied all formulas with a tortured sound that bore little resemblance to anything else occurring at the time. But while their contemporaries have found their way into the musical history books, FACTRIX have remained a ghostly memory for too long. Until now. With Artifact, the archeological history of FACTRIX has at last been exhumed and cataloged for the digital age. This two-disc retrospective features all their important studio recordings, newly remastered from the original analog recordings, along with a wide array of obscure live tracks and unreleased material from the band's own archives. Artifact features stunning photographic imagery from Ruby Ray (one of the visionaries who helped define the look of seminal publications like Search and Destroy and the original tabloid version of Re/Search) and others, along with a vintage interview from Slash magazine and extensive liner notes by Carlo McCormick, Stanislaw Sobelewski, and Michael Moynihan. The music of FACTRIX has lost none of its power or immediacy over the last two decades. The Protagonist- Songs of Experience, CD - Are you one of those that wondered whatevered happened to The Protagonist? But after this summer's strong comeback, the Interim EP, the time has finally come for a new album. Just like A Rebours, the title Songs of Experience betrays the literary impact on the music. And just like the poems of William Blake, these compositions strive to forge a perfect marriage between romanticism and darkness, with most emphasis on the latter this time around. Of the eight tracks, some are reworked versions of rare compilation tracks and some are completely new. "Radiophare" brings the listener first class radio-noise in a vein of Bad Sector, Arecibo or SETI/Lagowski. This material was gathered during two years (under project research named Clausthome) using different ways of radio waves scanning, data gathered by radio telescopes and archives of universe research data servers. It was a sound analysis experiment, where material and after-processing of both Earth and cosmic authentic static radiation were used, applying different sound alteration programs and sampling methods, as well as sound synthesis creating music environment. It is a process of translation and transformation that leads towards awareness of that potential environment, which can be created using the gathered material. Gerechtigkeits Liga – Hypnotischer Existenzialismus, CD The mysterious and legendary project Gerechtigkeits Liga has returned with a long awaited rerelease of 70 minutes of rare material, which was recorded throughout the middle of the 1980`s. The prestigous release comes painstakingly packaged in a elaborately designed silver printed six sided digipack which includes the rare 12" "The games must go on", which was originally released in 1984 on G.L`s own label, Zyklus records, in a small edition of 500 copies. Also now available for the first time as part of the collection is the LP "Hypnotischer Existenzialismus", which was originally released on SPK`s label "Side Effects", in 1985, at that time still being run by Graeme Revell. As a real gem there are 7 additional Bonus live tracks, 6 of which have never seen the dark of night. All tracks were recorded live in New York City, in 1984. The artwork of the digipack comprises some known cover reproductions and unknown artwork, which has been carefully integrated into the original coverdesigns. At the time of its conception the 4-track 12" Maxie "The games must go on", was a pioneering achievement of sound experimentation consisting of varying different rythmic layers and a diverse selection of tribal as well as "modern" percussive instruments. Tape manipulations completely replaced the use of samplers ( on the 12" as well as on the LP ). Synthesized equipment and drum machines were heavily treated through digital delays, making the sound very intense and powerfull. The expressiveness of the music comes partly from the spaces in between the notes. It is therefore mental as well as physical, for it is the mind that links some of the notes together... -The critically acclaimed LP "Hypnotischer Existenzialismus" contains 11 tracks and was partly influenced by the writings of E.M. Cioran. The "styles" are ranging from dark ambient, classic -old school post industrial and tribal industrial. It's a composition of apocalyptic soundscapes which open up into longer sequences of heavy drumbeats and minimal metal percussion, revered trumpet and Fanfaren sounds, animal screams and tribal chants. All with the possible aim to take the listener onto a journey of evolutionary stages throughout the 20th century and maybe beyond. -The G.L live bonus tracks from 1984 are a very valuable document and testimony of the cacophony, insanity and intensity of those unique, twisted yet enchanting G.L performances, suffused full of raw power and energy. Clock DVA - Buried Dreams, CD (Nextera)ERA9815-2 Legendary and most wanted (but long time deleted) album from Sheffield's industrial band Clock DVA formed by Adi Newton in late 70's was originally released in 1989 as DVA's fourth official album and the first one using solely electronic instruments and samples. The album was written and recorded in 1988 by Paul Browse, Dean Dennis and Adi Newton. 10 years later was digitally remastered and re-released with the cooperation of Paul Browse and Dean Dennis by czech independent label NextEra. It is almost unbelievable how unique and innovative sound this album has after so many years of its creation! This release is absolute must for all electronic music lovers! (Nextera) Liles, Andrew - My Long Accumulating Discontent, CD . ERA 2035-2 - the fourth and certainly the strangest recording from Andrew Liles. This CD is in places more 'melodic' than Liles' previous output and its 17 tracks cover a wide musical territory. Some songs are short and harmonious, other pieces are longer, subtle and contemplative with drifting delicate drones. In places the CD is truly bizarre and defies all conventions.
